John J. Johnson’s wife Terry (Mayo) Johnson, Hackensack High School class of 1950, sent me a veteran form on her husband John J. Johnson in 2005. I spoke to John J. Johnson, age 80, on August 3, 2011 and this is the information I received:

John J. Johnson, Hackensack High School class of 1949, served in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954,16 months were in Korea.  John was in a Signal Battalion, which he compared to working for the PSEG in a battle zone. He said that people do not realize how complex and important communications are on the battlefield because you are the eyes and ears of the fighting force. John J. Johnson said he would string wire, erect telephone poles, put underground wire in, and anything else related to getting communication equipment in service to support the forces within the battle zone.

John J. Johnson rose to the rank of Sergeant and received:
The National Defense medal, Korean Service Medal,
United Nations Korean Service Medal
, and the
ROK (Republic of Korea) War Service Medal.
